This weekend has been kind of productive. It's been good, There have been a number of 'outstanding tasks' that I had to complete, and complete them I did. It all began with a mighty Queen Vic Market mission. We got plenty of crap. Lots of meat (delicious meat...) as well as some fish, cheese, veggies, and these strange 'bean balls' from the African deli place I've never tried before. They were great - real nice. They tasted like a kind of bread, but apparently there's no wheat in them at all, all ground beans of various varieties. They were yum. After we got home,
mstakenidentity's younger brother David began his adventure of living in Kensington. I spent the early afternoon/what was left of the morning arranging his room downstairs. I needed to get some of the crap out of it (including an ironing board, a tool box, a random tape measure and no fewer than 2 large laundry hampers). He arrived a bit before 4pm, and at the moment he's staying with us for 2 weeks to see how we like having him here, and se how he likes living with us two nutbags. He has a lot of Family Guy on DVD. And I mean a lot.... wow there's a lot of Family Guy there. He's a good kid, happy to be out of Frankston, and I think this will all go well.
Sunday was 'Handy Seamus' day. For those that don't know, I used to work at a Hardware Store in Brunswick, a 'Mitre 10 Handy' and I spent some years going by the Pseudonym 'Handy Seamus' as a result because my name badge (from a distance) read 'Handy Seamus'. Sunday handy Seamus was back in town. Mission 1 - mount a shelf. Easy. Had the bits I needed from Ikea, and I had it done very quickly. The 'preparation' for it was a bit more involved: Going back to Eliza's house to borrow a drill from Tony, which was easy. I then started to hunt for my drill bits, and couldn't find them anywhere, so a Bunnings mission was on. I went to Bunnings, got an 8mm drill bit, also got a new set of screwdrivers, and got a key cut for David. Yay!.
Mission 2: Mount that tapestry that's been sitting in the cupboard for months. That took a little longer. Our ceiling feels high from the top rung of a step ladder (what? Seamus not observing ladder safety? Never...). But I got the brackets up on the wall, hung the tapestry and all is well.
Hidden Mission: Something bizarre happened. Our kitchen has cupboards with shelves in them above the bench top. The shelves are held up by little plastic shelf clips that sit in pre-drilled holes. These are crap. Crap because there is nothing to hold them into the wall (by way of a screw thread or adhesive) and crap because you they sit in chipboard, which is soft, so over time they stretch the holes they are sitting in. The point of all this is that there are 4 of these clips. One of them pops out, no big deal......
2 of them popped out, the shelf collapsed, forced the door open and suddenly we've only got 2 wine glasses, and 1 champagne flute left..... bugger.
There was glass everywhere! Man that stuff travels. There was a bottle of scotch sitting on that shelf also. It fell down too, but miraculously didn't break. It broke the bowl it landed on though....
I showed it though - we had Bunnings mission part 2, and 4 angle brackets and 8 screws later, that shelf ain't going nowhere soon.
And that was the weekend: Buying lots of meat, David moving in, fixing lots of shelves.
What a weekend... :).
